Rhodo Go-Go - Friends Volunteers at Work

Volunteers receive certificates

The Friends of Plean Country Park have been buying new tools and had a good chance to use some of them on CSV Make a Difference Day on 29th October 2011when we held Rhodo-Go-Go.

A group of volunteers completed a hard day’s work clearing the invasive species rhododendron ponticum which is the one with the lovely purple flower which was introduced to this country during the Victorian times. Unfortunately, it destroys woodland and reduces the habitat available for flora and fauna.

The volunteers worked late into the afternoon and were awarded certificates from the CSV and there was a Prize draw for t-shirts donated by CSV. The volunteers came from various groups to help in the park and are keen to return for more punishment. It must be because the Friends provided an excellent lunch courtesy of a grant from Action Earth.

Everyone worked extremely hard and there was a great sense of achievement at the end of the day.
